Raising Exceptional Dogs in Exceptional Homes

At GFCKennel, we believe the best dogs are raised in loving family environments — not kennels. Our Guardian Home Program is a partnership between GFCK and carefully selected families who provide a forever home for one of our dogs while supporting our commitment to preserving and advancing the breed. We do this so that we can place dogs in forever homes while they are young, rather than wait until they are adults and retire. This gives the dog more continuity throughout their lifetime, and provides families with a longer period of time enjoying the dog as a part of their family.

What Is a Guardian Home?

A guardian home is a hand-selected family that raises and cares for one of our dogs as a full-time, beloved family pet. The dog lives with you — in your home, on your couch, in your life — while remaining part of our breeding program for a defined period. When that period concludes, the dog is fully yours.

It’s a relationship built on trust, communication, and a shared love of exceptional dogs.

What’s In It for You

Guardian families receive a well-bred, health-tested GFCK dog at little cost — a dog that would otherwise represent a significant investment. In return, you give that dog more one-on-one attention than we can give them.

Guardian families enjoy:

• A high-quality dog placed in your home as a full family member

• GFCK coverage of all breeding-related expenses

• Ongoing support, guidance, and expertise from our team

• Full ownership of the dog at program completion — spayed or neutered and retired to you

What We Ask of You

This is a partnership, and we take it seriously. We ask our guardian families to do the same.

Guardian responsibilities include:

• Providing a safe, stable, and loving home environment

• Maintaining routine veterinary care (wellness visits, vaccines, and preventatives at guardian’s expense)

• Keeping the dog at a healthy weight and in excellent condition

• Making the dog available for required health testing, breeding appointments, and whelping and rearing pups as scheduled

• Following GFCK’s nutrition, exercise, and care guidelines

• Agreeing not to breed or rehome the dog, ever (if rehoming is needed, GFCK will be the one to do it)

What GFCK Commits to You

We don’t just place a dog and walk away. GFCK remains an active partner throughout the program.

GFCK’s commitments include:

• Covering all costs directly related to the breeding program, including health testing

• Serving as an ongoing resource for training, behavior, health, and breed questions

• Communicating openly and respectfully throughout our partnership

• Retiring the dog to you fully — spayed or neutered — at the conclusion of the program

Who We’re Looking For

Guardian homes are not one-size-fits-all, and we select them thoughtfully. The ideal guardian family:

• Has a securely fenced yard and a stable home environment

• Is willing to keep the dog away from dog parks, boarding kennels, and other environments where infectious diseases could be contracted; any boarding is to be done with us during the years the dog is still in the breeding program

• Lives within a reasonable driving distance of GFCK

• Is committed to following program guidelines for the duration of the agreement

• Genuinely wants a dog as a family member — not just the opportunity

Breed experience is a plus, but a great home and a willing heart matter most.

Program Overview

For females: Guardian females typically complete two to four litters before being spayed and fully retired to their guardian family. Females will be at least one year old before breeding, and will be finished with their breeding career before the age of seven years old. For each breeding looks like about a week with us for breeding, and then back for 2 months to birth and raise the puppies.

For males: Guardian males are available for stud as needed over a defined program period or number of breedings, up to 6 years or 12 litters.

Full program terms — including ownership structure, scheduling, veterinary cost responsibilities, and early termination provisions — are outlined clearly in our Guardian Home Agreement prior to placement.

Ready to Apply?

If you think your family might be a great fit, we’d love to hear from you. The process begins with a short application, followed by a conversation, a meet-and-greet with the dog, and a review of the Guardian Home Agreement together.

We’re not just placing a dog — we’re choosing a partner. And we hope you’ll feel the same way about us.
